Landscaping & Irrigation

Greenway

MRPOA contracts landscaping and irrigation work to Leo’s Landscaping. Casey Roland Tree Care provides tree maintenance and FIREWISE work.

Maintaining the meadow in the central park and the greenways that circle Mountain Ranch are ongoing throughout the spring, summer, and fall (e.g., weekly mowing, pruning along the greenways, managing damaged or diseased trees). It is a major expense—but these common, public, and gracious spaces are part of what makes Mountain Ranch unique.

Currently, MRPOA relies on Leo’s Landscaping, as well as homeowner volunteers, to help with greenway cleanup of leaves in the Fall/Winter season.

The “TID” in Ashland (technically, the Ashland Canal) is derived from two sources—Howard Prairie Lake and Hyatt Lake. Once the reservoirs’ waters are combined at Green Springs, they run via underground pipes that by-pass Emigrant Lake, and emerge as an open ditch on the hillside outside Ashland city limits. This ditch continues north-westward through private property above Southern Oregon University over to Ashland’s water treatment plant. There, TID water can be added to pure run-off from Mt. Ashland, then processed into municipal drinking water. Property owners near the TID, like Mountain Ranch, may draw from the TID for their irrigation needs for which they pay an annual fee. TID and MRPOA—

1) In the past, TID water was typically available starting early to mid-May and shutting off towards the end of September or early October. Due to our ongoing drought, the TID season has been growing shorter and shorter; it ran from mid-June to early July in 2021. Looking ahead, this reduction in available irrigation water will require new, strategic planning with regard to MRPOA landscaping. TID delivers its water to MRPOA’s pumphouse; its jurisdiction ends there. TID has no knowledge or responsibility for any of the pipes within MRPOA’s boundaries. If you are experiencing a water delivery problem on your property, DO NOT CALL TID; instead contact the MRPOA Board President at mrpoa.ashland@gmail.com.

2)  MRPOA’s TID irrigation lines and sprinklers run from the pumphouse to each owners’ property line. MRPOA maintains these lines along with those that serve the park and the greenways. Lines that run parallel with curbs and across driveways supply water to some owners’ lots; these lines are very shallow.  If an owner is considering replacing their driveway or doing other landscaping work along the front of their property, kindly notify the MRPOA Board President, at mrpoa.ashland@gmail.com.

3)   At the homeowner’s property line the jurisdiction is passed on to the individual property owner.  Again, if you have you a water delivery problem on your property, contact the MRPOA and not TID.  MRPOA is not responsible for maintenance or repair of any water lines within an owner’s property, but MRPOA may be able to offer advice. Below is a map of the approximate locations of some of the MRPOA pipes carrying water between owners’ lots.  These pipes carry water to the one-time existing sidewalk sprinklers and then to some residents’ main TID shutoff valve, if it is in the front of their property.  Not shown on this map are the lines supplying water to the greenways and the park, as well as lines to residents’ TID valves located in the back of their property.
